This is my 1977 Chevrolet Opala. My first and only car since 09’. It Took a year and a half to save enough money to buy it and, for my earnings, about the rest of my life to restore it.
Sometimes I get frustated with his general state and bad situations it put me in and think about sell it. Like when the front right disc break locked in a main avenue and I kept going breathing a cancerous smoke that was coming in the car trying to avoid get a ticket. Pedestrians faces looking at me were priceless.
Or, in the second date with my girlfirend, trying impress her with my “classic of brazlian industry”, and start engine died, making us wait for a hour and half for help, in a cold night. That one, without planning, was great test of character for her haha! Still, she loves the car. The funny thing is that my ‘ex’ used to hate the Opala and the car responded making some of his pieces fall apart on her hand! 3:D
But, in the end, have an old car its a joy itself. When I drive its like a time machine. I even like the smell of gasoline coming out the carburator tru the dash. :)
The Opala its a very carismatic car here in Brazil, cause GM built the same car from 1969 tru 1992, only doing facelifts. Even after 21 years since Chevrolet stop its production, people share their love to the model with clubs and car shows.
In several ocasions I testemony that, with people making compliments or sharing their remembrance about it.
My car atracts atention because of the unsual color (its called Azul Havaí - Hawaian Blue) for todays stantarts, The streets here are now full of cars that look alike and with dead colors like black, silver and gray.
My friend Rodrigo Romão, one of the creators of the excelent site Dirty Kids Crew took the awsome pictures above.I can’t thank him enough. I always will look at those images to remind how cool my car is. =)
